Only Orvilles in the Building
Why only Orvilles (Orville made instruments) and not GIbsons (company made excluding Orville)? It’s because my book covers Orville’s life from 1856 to 1918. And it’s about him. I do cover the company from 1902 to 1918, but I try to write about it from Orville’s point of view. As I’ve often said, I write as if the company doesn’t exist, because it didn’t. Until it did.
There’s a reason why we don’t have a lot of first hand information from Orville himself, which is covered in the book. This situation lends itself to endless discussions that generate a lot of questions. It makes Orville an interesting subject. Perfect for a blog.
My hope is to start those discussions and pose those questions. And also to draw in that portion of the general public who might not be interested in reading an entire book about Orville, but would skim through this blog out of curiosity.
